Don’t miss this weekend at the Homestead! We are having our first open house and it has a Longaberger Basket theme. Come and share a glass of wine and check the newest in Longaberger Baskets and Pottery. Friday from 6pm-8pm and Saturday from 11am-3pm.

Do you have a patch of Grandma’s rhubarb in your back yard that you don’t know what to do with? Well, we want it and we’ll give you 15% off one bottle of wine if you bring us the stalks, no leaves please. Then later in the season you can come back and check out what we actually did with it! Rhubarb never tasted so good!!!

The wine is bottled and new batches of jam, jellies and juices are being made as I type!!! McEachran Homestead hours starting May 5th, 2010 will be Wednesday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturdays 11am-3pm. Watch the website for wine tasting dates and special events.

The Farmers Market season is fast approaching! We will be selling our Farmers Market line at the following markets:

Woodstock Farmers Market- Tuesdays and Saturdays 8am-1pm. The season begins Saturday May 1 and will run until October 30, as long as viable. Their website is http://www.woodstockfarmersmarket.org

Edgebrook Farmers Market- located in Rockford off of N. Alpine Road is on Wednesdays 9am-1pm. The season begins on Wednesday, May 5th and runs thru the last Wednesday in October. Their website is http://www.edgebrookshops.com/sales_events.html

Cherryvale Mall Farmers Market- located at the Cherryvale Mall in Cherry Valley is on Thursdays from 9am-1pm. The season will begin on Thursday, May 6 and runs until October 28th.

Don’t forget to call us if you have any questions at 815-978-5120. The barn is open for special events from May thru mid-Dec. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Homestead!

We are making wine!

We are making wine!!! We received our final two permits and are in the process of getting wine ready to bottle! It is looking very good (and tastes pretty awesome too) and we can’t wait for you to try it. Please check back in early March to see when the first bottles are ready for sale!

The grapes and raspberries are tucked in for winter but we are still working away. There’s always paperwork to catch up on but the excitement is happening in the barn. We are installing a new boiler system so that we can extend our season. You will be able to visit and have parties starting as early as April and as late as Christmas in 2010. So until we meet again, the McEachran Homestead Staff would like to wish you the best during this holiday season and for the New Year!

Used Grape Lot?

Birds love grapes. So do we. So, we have to resort to protecting our grapes from the birds. We’ll see if noisy, flappy, colorful pieces of plastic will do the trick.

The used car lot flags are courtesy of the Boone County Fair folks who offered us upon asking all the flags we could use. Thanks a million!
